HISTORY OF MIKADZO
Post-war years were not easy for the majority of industrial enterprises in Japan on the one hand. On the other hand they gave a powerful impetus to the development of new industries and technologies. This time was the beginning of Mikadzo company formation.
In the World War II, Japan was among the losers countries. This could not affect the economy. During the war, military orders were the basis of Japanese industry. Cold steel was one of the most popular, where the kitchen knives were a small segment of the production. Now, in accordance to the agreements of capitulation, factories, small workshops - all had to re-qualify to produce civilian products.
It didn’t affect many well-known companies in the best way. Some of them had to phase out the production. Others tried to survive by making kitchen knives mainly for the local market. The import was not even mentioned.
At that time the two not young Japanese engineers Uesugi Watanabe and Masahiro Ishikawa take a very risky at that time move and bought in 1959 the main assets of Minasaki Sakahogi Koba factory in the "knife" capital of Japan - Seki. Though, at that time to call the production the factory would be an exaggeration, most likely it was a big workshop.
The main reason, which pushed these people to the further purchase Teizo Mikado Industries was the reputation and production technologies. Many specialists working at the factory since the beginning of its existence, were real masters of their craft. Moreover, despite the post-war crisis, the company managed to keep it’s face and enjoyed the confidence of the consumers.
On the other hand rundown equipment and small facilities made large-scale production developing impossible. Taking the most part of debts and problems, the new management had focused on the organization of new unique product lines of kitchen knives. For that purpose a new project office was established in 1962.
The updated company has set a long-term plans. The main objective was not just winning the leading position in the domestic market of the country of the rising sun, but also the start of supplying in the Central - American and European countries.
As it was mentioned above, many masters have worked at the factory for a long time. In order to keep the traditions and quality of products and to allow the specialists to learn new technologies, a training center of the company in the same 1962 was opened.
Creating a peaceful production based on a military complex led to amazing result not only in Teizo Mikado Industries factory. By the end of the 60's the whole world began to speak about Japanese economic miracle. Previously closed market of the country of the rising sun has started intensive attack on the European, Asian and American markets. New Japanese transistor radios, tape recorders, televisions, cars are well recognized around the world.
In 1968 the construction of a new plant for knife production in the suburbs of Osaka in a place called Daito began, and since 1975 the company has started to import products to the markets of the Pacific countries. 1982 - the beginning of the supplying in the U.S.
Increasing the rates of production and new requirements of producing kitchen knives led to a renewal of the trademarks and establishing of TM Mikadzo in 1984.
In 1987, the company started production of the European product lines, and since 1997 it has mastered the production of ceramic knives.
